Glass & Ridge
A hunting optics site that answers one question with arithmetic rather than adjectives: what does the next $250, $500 or $1,000 of glass actually buy you, and when is the cheaper pair already enough.

About the site
About Glass & Ridge
Glass & Ridge is written for a specific reader, the hunter who already owns a cheap pair of binoculars, knows the vocabulary, and has hit a particular limit: the glass grays out before legal light ends, the edges smear, 12x will not hold still offhand, or ranging one-handed while holding glass in the other has stopped being funny. Five product lines carry the site, each with its own hub. Binoculars is the largest, covering formats and the comparisons that actually decide a purchase, 8x42 against 10x42 and 10x42 against 12x50, plus the guides behind them on exit pupil, magnification for the terrain you hunt, prism type and what a spec sheet does not tell you. Rangefinders is built around angle compensation, the feature the site calls the most important one on a hunting rangefinder, and the different things makers mean by it. Spotting scopes answers when a hunter needs one at all and what size gets carried rather than left in the truck. Monoculars covers the three situations where one beats a binocular, and Harnesses, tripods and adapters covers the gear that decides whether the optic ever comes out of the pack. Cross-category guides sit above all of it and spend a complete kit at $250, $500 and $1,000 rather than ranking one product at a time.
Picks follow the standards on this hub, and Glass & Ridge is unusually blunt about the line between what it computed and what it read. It states on every page that it has not field-tested anything: no lab, no instrumented rig, no claimed hands-on use, and the phrase 'in our testing' appears nowhere on the site. What it does instead is publish one set of ranking criteria per category, with the weights stated before any pick is made, so every product card breaks its score down against criteria a reader can check. Manufacturer specifications are read off the maker's own product page with the date read printed under the spec table and the URL in a Sources section. The optical arithmetic is the site's own and the formulas are shown: exit pupil as objective divided by magnification, twilight factor as the square root of magnification times objective, horizontal distance as line-of-sight distance times the cosine of the angle. Anything that is not on a spec sheet is attributed to a named expert publication or to named owner-review consensus rather than asserted as the site's own observation, and where expert and owner opinion conflict both are shown. Prices come from the Amazon Creators API with the date checked, and if that data goes stale past 48 hours every number on the site disappears and the buttons fall back to 'Check price on Amazon', so the failure mode is silence rather than a wrong figure. The scores are never emitted as structured data, because marking an editorial score up as a review rating of an untested product would contradict the site's own copy. It is funded by Amazon Associates commission alone, with no advertising, no sponsored content and no paid placement.
Glass & Ridge belongs to the Hunting & Shooting group of the network, next to Decoy & Drake and Strut & Slate for the seasons it glasses, Sounder & Scope for the thermal and night-vision end of the same problem, Cam & Canopy for scouting before the hunt and Bench & Berm and Lens & Lead for the range. It is live at glassandridge.com. Its footer names Iron Mako Media as publisher and links back to this hub, and its About page carries the Mike M. byline, so a reader can verify who is behind it in one click.
Glass & Ridge is owned and operated by Iron Mako Media. It follows the same editorial standards as every site in the network and carries the network-wide affiliate disclosure: like every Iron Mako Media site, Glass & Ridge earns commissions on purchases made through its links, and this hub carries none.
